Lara Cabaniss, STEM coach at Coltrane-Webb, R. Brown McAllister and Winecoff elementary schools, was named the 2019 N.C. Science Teachers Association District Six Outstanding Elementary School Science Teaching Award winner. She received her award at a special ceremony in November in Winston-Salem.
NCSTA District Outstanding Science Teacher Awards are presented to recognize excellence in science teaching in North Carolina to teachers who exemplify excellent, creative and innovative teaching of science. The honor is determined by other science educators and recognizes Cabaniss’ professional excellence and contributions to science teaching and learning.
Cabaniss’ former principal at Coltrane-Webb Elementary School, Tim Taylor, said: “Lara Cabaniss is as great as they come when thinking of a passionate educator who truly works in the best interest of students and teachers. Lara has worked tirelessly over the years to provide students with rich learning experiences that center on STEM education and developing the badly needed collaborative skills within students.”
