CONCORD – Mother Nature clearly isn’t a basketball fan.
The recent inclement weather in the area caused a number of high school basketball games to be postponed on Friday, which is usually the busiest night of the week for the sport.
Schools in Mecklenburg and Cabarrus counties were closed today because of the weather issues, which included severe rain and winds, and reports of tornados touching down in the area on Thursday.
All five of the public-school games involving Cabarrus County teams scheduled for Friday have moved to later dates.
Those games primarily will be made up on Saturday and Monday.
The only games involving local teams scheduled to take place tonight are Cannon School at Charlotte Christian. The varsity girls are scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m., directly followed by the varsity boys.
Here is a list of games to be played on their rescheduled dates:
A.L. Brown at Central Cabarrus: varsity girls at 2 p.m., followed by varsity boys
Cox Mill at Concord: varsity girls at 5:15 p.m., followed by varsity boys
Northwest Cabarrus at Jay M. Robinson: varsity girls at 6 p.m., followed by varsity boys
Butler at Hickory Ridge: varsity girls at 6 p.m., followed by varsity boys
Mount Pleasant at Montgomery Central: varsity girls at 6 p.m., followed by varsity boys; games will be played at East Montgomery High School.
