CONCORD – It’d been a while since the cfa Academy girls basketball team had won a game by such a narrow margin.

But after Matthews Carmel Christian came to town and pushed the Eagles to their limit, it was evident that they have the ability to win games in any fashion.

On Friday night, the Cream of Cabarrus No. 1-ranked Eagles held off Carmel Christian, 68-62, to improve their record to 17-5.

It was a change from the norm for cfa Academy, which had notched its four wins since the calendar flipped to 2020 by an average margin of 41 points. It was the Eagles’ slimmest margin of victory since they defeated Charlotte Victory Christian 59-57 on Dec. 5.

Junior guard Jael Hall poured in a season-high 28 points for cfa Academy and grabbed nine rebounds. Junior guard Reagan Dickens had 13, and Zykiah Benjamin added 12.
