MONROE – The Cream of Cabarrus No. 4-ranked Cox Mill girls basketball team let fourth-quarter lead slip away and suffered a tough, non-conference road loss to Monroe Piedmont, 56-52, Monday night.
The Chargers, who had a four-game winning streak halted, saw their record even out at 7-7, and the Panthers improved to 6-4.
After a close first quarter, the Chargers eased out in front and took a 22-19 lead into the locker room at halftime. They even added to their lead in the third period and led, 35-29, at the start of the fourth quarter.
In the final stanza, however, Piedmont outscored the Chargers, 27-17, and eventually took the victory.
Kelsey Holmes had 15 points for Cox Mill, and Nya Tillery had 14.
