Northwest Cabarrus football

WHEN: Today, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS: Northwest Cabarrus 2-0, 0-0 South Piedmont 3A Conference; Carson 1-1, 0-0 North Piedmont 3A

COACHES: Northwest Cabarrus’ Brandon Gentry is in his fourth season (23-16); Carson’s Daniel Crosby is in his first season (1-1)

LAST MEETING: The teams’ last matchup was in 2016 and ended in a close win for the Trojans, 17-14.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Northwest Cabarrus: senior quarterback Nick Wilds-Lawing, senior running back Tyrese Blake, senior tight end Karsen Perkins, senior linebacker LJ Currie, senior defensive lineman Andre Hill, senior safety George Miller-Duncan; Carson: senior offensive lineman Robert Barringer, senior running back Hunter Courtney, junior quarterback Alex London, junior wide receiver Jacob Harris

MATCHUP: Northwest Cabarrus is riding the momentum of two weeks of wins after last year’s undefeated regular season, but they’ll be facing an old conference opponent in Carson, which left the SPC a few years ago. Carson and Northwest Cabarrus run a similar system offensively, and that should help the Trojans going into this one. Another strong defensive effort will be needed for the Trojans, who have allowed a total of 18 points this season, to keep Carson from spoiling a good thing.
