The A.L. Brown Wonders host the Gastonia Ashbrook Greenwave on a brand new field in their season opener.

WHEN: Today, 7:30 p.m.

RECORDS: Carson 2-4 overall, 1-0 North Piedmont 3A Conference; A.L Brown 3-1, 0-0 South Piedmont 3A

COACHES: Carson’s Daniel Crosby is in his first season (2-4); A.L. Brown’s Mike Newsome is in his ninth season (73-34)

LAST MEETING: In 2018, the Wonders defeated the Cougars, 42-14.

PLAYERS TO WATCH: Carson: senior offensive lineman Robert Barringer, senior running back Hunter Courtney, junior quarterback Alex London, junior wide receiver Jacob Harris; A.L. Brown: sophomore quarterback Cam Kromah, junior receiver Isaiah Black, senior wide receiver Jose Vargas, running backs Todd Kennedy and Jakhiry Bennett, senior cornerback Josiah Cauthen, linebackers Dezmond Adams and BJ Foster, lineman Jatarius Mason and Xavier Jordan

MATCHUP: The Wonders need the offensive firepower they brought to last week’s second half at Davie to avoid the trouble of another early deficit. If last week’s second half is a showing, the trio of Bennett, Black and Kromah should be powerful again this week. The three accounted for nearly 600 yards offensively in A.L. Brown’s third victory over the season. Look for those three to lead the Wonders offensively, as they hunt coach Mike Newsome’s key to victory -- a fast start.
