CONCORD -- These are the top six high school football teams in Cabarrus County this week, as ranked by the Independent Tribune:

1. NORTHWEST CABARRUS (3-0)

Previous ranking: 1

The Trojans have won their three games by an average of 40 points, including last week’s 49-0 victory at Carson. But many expect them to be challenged when Marvin Ridge (1-1) comes to town. We’ll see.

2. HICKORY RIDGE (2-0)

Previous ranking: 2

After being idle last week, the Ragin’ Bulls get back at it with a home game against No. 5 Cox Mill Friday.

3. A.L. BROWN (1-0)

Previous ranking: 3

The Wonders finally return to their new artificial turf field Friday against Mooresville (1-2) after having last week off.

4. CENTRAL CABARRUS (2-1)

Previous ranking: 4

The Vikings have had back-to-back strong performances, including last week’s 45-0 shellacking of Mount Pleasant. This week, they go to Charlotte for a test against 4A Providence (1-2).

5. COX MILL (2-1)

Previous ranking: 5

After outdueling West Rowan, 28-13, in hostile territory last week, the Chargers are gaining confidence. They’ll need it Friday when they travel to No. 2 Hickory Ridge (2-0).

6. JAY M. ROBINSON (1-2)

Previous ranking: 6

Over the past two weeks, the Bulldogs have been outscored 103-14, going 0-2 vs. Union County teams. After last week’s 47-14 loss to Monroe, here comes another Union squad: Cuthbertson (2-1).
