The Northwest Cabarrus Trojans are the Independent Tribune's No. 1-ranked team for the third week in a row.

CONCORD -- Here is the Independent Tribune's ranking of the top six high school football teams in Cabarrus County for Week 3: 

1. NORTHWEST CABARRUS (2-0)

Previous ranking: 1

After last week’s 47-15 win over Mount Pleasant, the Trojans are averaging 44 points per game, and their defense looks strong entering this week’s game at Carson (1-1).

2. HICKORY RIDGE (2-0)

Previous ranking: 3

The Bulls did what they were supposed to do last week, beating unranked Concord, 63-8, and now they get a break. But this train is starting to gain steam.

3. A.L. BROWN (1-0)

Previous ranking: 2

The Wonders are off this week following their defense-inspired 28-6 comeback victory over Gastonia Ashbrook last week, which gives them time to clean up some things offensively.

4. CENTRAL CABARRUS (1-1)

Previous ranking: 4

The Vikings needed to prove they can finish, and they did, with an emphatic 38-3 win over Sun Valley. Now the prepare for the Battle of Highway 49 at Mount Pleasant (0-2).

5. COX MILL (1-1)

Previous ranking: 6

The Chargers bounce back from a Week 1 loss by beating Parkwood, 28-13, and this week they visit West Rowan (1-1).

6. JAY M. ROBINSON (1-1)

Previous ranking: 5

The Bulldogs fall after losing at Marvin Ridge, 56-0, their worst defeat since Mallard Creek beat them by the same score in 2014. Now they play host to Monroe (1-1).
