Concord 13 to Havelock 21

Spiders running back Rocky Reid (4) can't break free from the Rams defenders during the Concord Spiders versus the Havelock Rams NCHSAA 3A Championship game. Concord came up short on the last play of the game, losing with a score of Concord 13 to Havelock 21. Marty Price- Special to the Independent Tribune

CONCORD, N.C. – Expectations are high for the Concord Spiders after back to back appearances in the 3-A state title game.

There are good reasons for the expectations: record-setting running back Rocky Reid returns along with solid veterans on the offensive and defensive lines and a quarterback in Kennan Black gives the Spiders a run/pass threat.

Coach Glen Padgett said the Spiders have a chance to be very good, but have to avoid the injury bug and find somebody to play linebacker to fill big holes left by Jerry Burk and Logan Sederegen, who are both playing college ball now.

The Spiders get tests early with a scrimmage against 4-A powerhouse Butler at the Cabarrus Jamboree Aug. 15th at A.L. Brown and then the Battle of the Bell to open the season against A.L. Brown Aug. 22 at Robert C. Bailey Stadium.
