CONCORD -- Here are results from Tuesday's games involving Cabarrus County girls basketball teams:

Chargers start season with victory

MONROE – The Cox Mill girls basketball team opened its 2019-20 season with a 54-36 victory at Monroe Sun Valley Tuesday night.

The Chargers secured the outcome with tough defense in the second and third quarters, when they limited Sun Valley to a combined six points.

Sophomore guard Leah Hines led the Chargers (1-0) with 13 points, while sophomore Kelsey Holmes was close behind with 12 points.

The Chargers next play Thursday at Weddington.

Mavericks pull away from Bulls

CHARLOTTE – The Hickory Ridge girls basketball team suffered an opening night defeat, as Mallard Creek took a 66-49 home victory over the Ragin’ Bulls.

Hickory Ridge trailed by just four points at halftime, 32-28, but the Mavericks broke open the game in the third quarter by scoring 22 points and limiting the Bulls to 12.

The Mavericks (1-0) had four players score in double figures, including getting 14 points from former Central Cabarrus standout Navaeh Brown, a senior who has committed to Wake Forest.

Lauren Walker’s 15 points led Mallard Creek, while Kennedy Simpson had 14 and Samyha Suffern 10.

The Ragin’ Bulls (0-1) got a big night from guard Kennedy Calhoun, who netted at game-high 20 points, and Jadah Shears scored 10 points.

cfa Academy blows out Northside

CONCORD – In a game that was never in doubt for the cfa Academy girls basketball team, the Eagles ran away from Northside Christian, 62-11, Tuesday night.

Jael Hall put up 14 points for the Eagles to lead the team. Kaylan Daniels had 11 points, and Bailey Stinson and Zykiah Benjamin produced 10 points apiece.
