CONCORD – Former NBA star Allen Iverson famously – or infamously – will be remembered for his public disdain of “practice,” but that’s not the way high school football players and coaches are feeling with Thursday approaching.
Tomorrow, teams across North Carolina will be allowed to conduct their first official practices for the 2019 season, according to the N.C. High School Athletic Association’s rules, and the excitement of Opening Day will be palpable for local fans as well.
Most of the Cabarrus County public-school teams will be taking to the field in the morning, with Mount Pleasant starting the earliest at 7 a.m., while two squads (Concord and Cox Mill) will get in their practices in the evening, at 5:30 p.m.
Either way, expect enthusiasm to spark each workout as season openers draw closer and closer. If you're a fan who just wants to go check out some of the local teams, just refer to the schedule to the left of this article.
And, yes, A.I., here in Cabarrus County, they actually don’t mind practice. Especially the first one.
