CHARLOTTE – The Central Cabarrus girls basketball team earned its first win of the season Friday night, when the Vikings defeated Davidson Day, 56-23, on the first day of the Charlotte Hoops Challenge at Myers Park High School.
Ja’el Miller paced the Vikings (1-1) with 16 points and nine assists. Demi Case and Aniyah Tate both had 11 points for Central Cabarrus.
The Vikings are slated to play host to Carson on Tuesday.

Chargers split a pair
CONCORD – The Cox Mill girls basketball team split a pair of games this week, following up a loss to Hough on Tuesday with a 57-43 victory over Lake Norman Charter in the North Mecklenburg Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday night.
Senior forward Nya Tillery had a team-leading 19 points for the Chargers, who improved their record to 2-2 on the season. Megan Gallegos added 10 points for Cox Mill.
The Chargers bolted to a 16-point lead at halftime, 30-14, and went on to take the victory.
On Tuesday night, the Chargers jumped out to a lead after one quarter of play, but Hough bounced back with a big second period and went on to take a 52-43 victory.
Cox Mill led 13-11 going into the second quarter, but the Huskies rattled off 20 points while limiting the Chargers to 12 and went into halftime with a 31-25 advantage. The Chargers pushed hard in the second half, but Hough held them off to hand them their second consecutive defeat.
