SALISBURY – The Central Cabarrus girls basketball team opened its 2019-20 season with a 63-30 loss at East Rowan Tuesday night.

The Vikings trailed by 11 points after the first quarter and had trouble recovering, scoring just two points in the second period.

Central Cabarrus was led by point guard Ja-el Miller’s 11 points, and Adalie Harrison had a game-best 18 points for East Rowan.

After the non-conference defeat, The Vikings are 0-1, while the Mustangs are 3-0.

Central Cabarrus takes on Davidson Day on Friday in the Charlotte Hoops Challenge.

Eagles’ defense is stifling

CONCORD – The cfa Academy girls basketball easily defeated Indian Trail Metrolina Christian, 55-16, at home on Tuesday night.

The Eagles’ defense was too much for Metrolina Christian to handle, as cfa Academy held its opponent to just five first-half points, including none in the second quarter.

Zykiah Benjamin had a team-leading 13 points for the Eagles, while Kaylan Daniels and Jael Hall scored 12 apiece.

CONCORD – The cfa Academy boys basketball team had another balanced effort Tuesday night, and it paid dividends for the Eagles, who took an 85-49 victory Indian Trail Metrolina Christian.

Junior guard Trae Benham drained six 3-pointers, leading to a game-best 24 points for the Eagles, who improved their record to 7-1 overall and 2-0 in Metrolina Athletic Conference.

Senior Furman signee Garrett Hien tallied 17 points and six rebounds for cfa Academy, senior Lloyd Latta had 12 points, and senior Youngstown State signee Cheick Traore added 11 points.

Senior Jake Brockmann had a team-leading 14 points for Metrolina Christian.
