CONCORD – The N.C. High School Baseball Coaches Association released its 2019 All-State team on Friday, and two Cabarrus County players were listed among the best in the Old North State.
Hickory Ridge senior Nolan DeVos made the 4A All-State squad, while Central Cabarrus sophomore Sam Yelton earned a spot on the 3A team.
The selections are the continuation of an impressive string of postseason honors for DeVos and Yelton.
DeVos, a Davidson College signee, recently was named the Southwestern 4A Conference Pitcher of the Year. He posted a 7-2 record on the mound with a 2.64 ERA and 112 strikeouts.
DeVos also was productive at the plate for the Bulls, batting .344 with 13 RBIs and a team-leading three home runs.
Yelton played center field for the Vikings this season. He was a terror in the batter’s box, too, hitting a team-leading .439, en route to being named the South Piedmont 3A Conference Player of the Year.
Yelton also led Central Cabarrus with 17 RBIs and nine doubles, and he tied for the team high with two triples.
