CONCORD Daniel Lamar Talbert, 74, a resident of Concord, passed away Sunday, June 2, 2019, in Jackson, Wyo., at St John's Medical Center after a brief illness. Dan, his wife Susan, and friends were on a cross country journey to explore the United States. A memorial service and celebration of life will be held Sunday, June 9, at 3 p.m., at Midway U.M.C. in Kannapolis, with the Revs. De Hillyer, Jim Hood and David Talbert officiating. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church following the service. Dress for the service is casual. Dan was born Nov. 28, 1944, in Mooresville, to the late Lamar A. Talbert and Marie Edwards Talbert. He was a graduate of A.L. Brown High School and UNC Charlotte. He worked as a teacher and numismatist. He was a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ, particularly known for compassionate ministry among neighbors who are homeless and marginalized. Dan had a wide circle of family and friends, and he loved them all dearly. Dan and his wife, Susan, were recipients of the 2011 prestigious Harry Denman Award for Evangelism through the Western North Carolina Conference of The United Methodist Church. He was one of the founders of Opportunity House in Concord. Dan is survived by Susan, his wife of 55 years. He is also survived by his sons, Nate (Lucy) of Greenville, N.C., David (Tammy) of Lexington, N.C., Sam (Mindy) of Kings Mountain, and Johnny of Los Angeles; nine grandchildren, Danny Barreiro-Talbert (April) of Winterville, Jeremy Talbert of Charlotte, Charles Barreiro-Talbert (Valerie) of Munster, Germany, Lindsey Eudy (Daniel) of Concord, Jason Talbert of Charlotte, Reina Barreiro-Talbert of Greenville, Grace Talbert of Raleigh, Bethany Talbert of Charlotte, Aaron Talbert of Lexington; six great-grandchildren, Maria, Leni, Tenley, Ryder, Max and Zane; sister, Tootsie Hathcock of Charlotte; two nieces and a nephew; and one goddaughter, Tyshanna Brown of Charlotte.
