CONCORD Mrs. Hope Gray Porter, 94, passed away Thursday, Sept. 5, 2019, at her home, surrounded by her family. A celebration of her life will be held at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Harmony United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Thad Brown. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., at the church, prior to the service. Hope was born June 15, 1925, in Concord, to the late Milton Lee and Ruby Estelle Sills Gray. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Fred Porter; brother, Joseph Gray; and sister, Imogene Gray. She is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Joe Porter. Hope was a lifetime member of Harmony United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for 40 years. She enjoyed reading books, the laughter of small children, eating cookies, cats, and trips to the dollar store. Hope also loved watching "NCIS", especially Agent Gibbs, "Law & Order: SVU", and going to see plays. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harmony UMC, 101 White St. NW, Concord, NC 28027.
