KANNAPOLIS Melissa Watts Phelps closed her eyes here on earth and opened them to the glories of Heaven, Saturday, Feb. 11, 2017. Born April 25, 1975, in Cabarrus County, she was the daughter of W. Glenn Watts and Sharon Seabolt Thigpen. Melissa was a sweet, generous, loving soul, who would do anything she could to help others in need. She had a big heart and could brighten up a room with her smile. Gone too soon, Melissa will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Preceding her in death were her maternal grandparents, Drake and Mary Harrelson Seabolt; paternal grandparents, Roy and Ida Bell Brawley Watts; and a special uncle, Joe Seabolt. Left to cherish her memory, in addition to her parents, are her two daughters, Brooke Phelps (Travis Benfield) and Alison Phelps; her son, Blake Phelps; her closest friend and father of her children, Ed Phelps; stepmother, Barbara Watts; brother, Justin Watts and wife, Kassie; nephew, Drake Watts; stepbrother, Michael Young and wife, Tracy, and their children, Kathryn and Mitchell; her soon to be first grandchild, Cade William Benfield; and several uncles, aunts, and cousins. A private funeral service will be held at Whitley's Funeral Home, conducted by Marty Payton, Pastor. To remember and celebrate Melissa's life, the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. this evening (Wednesday, Feb. 15) at Whitley's Funeral Home.
