May 16, 1938 - January 30, 2020 Camilla Anne Graeber, 81, of Lenoir, passed away Thursday, Jan. 30, 2020, at the Hospice and Palliative Care Unit of the Jack and Shirley Robbins Center in Hudson. She was surrounded by her family. Ms. Graeber was born May 16, 1938, in Cabarrus County, to the late James Austin and Evenlyn Pirie Graeber. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, James L. Graeber and her sister, Alma Louise Martin. Camilla had a love for music that was never ending. She especially enjoyed introducing classical music to young musicians. She was a lifelong teacher and was a band director at Hibriten High School, Lenoir High School and Lenoir Junior High. In 2007, she was inducted into the North Carolina Band Directors Association Hall of Fame. Camilla touched many young people, leaving positive impressions on their lives and leaves precious memories with a large group of beloved friends, many of whom were former students. Camilla enjoyed traveling, spending time at the beach, playing cards, and taking time to play with her cats. Those left to cherish her memory include her sister-in-law, Dianne Graeber of Lenoir; her niece, Bella Rizzo of Suwanee, Ga.; nephews, Bryon Graeber and his wife, Jaime, of Fletcher, and Brent Graeber and his wife, Rachel, of Greenville, S.C. She also has five great-nephews and -nieces: Bella, Braylen, Evelyn, Crosby and Quinn. Memorials in honor of Camilla may be made to the Community Music Club of Lenoir, a local organization who provides scholarship monies to young musicians who wish to attend summer music camp.
