CHARLOTTE Mr. Jerry Emmett Fox, 81, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at Atrium Health in Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., today (Friday, Aug. 9), at Wilkinson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow in the chapel at 12:30 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Davis officiating. Jerry will be laid to rest in Winterville, Ga., Saturday, Aug. 10. Jerry was born Dec. 19, 1937, in New Hanover County, a son of the late George F. Fox and Sarah Vereen Fox. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, his twin brother, Jesse, brother, George, and sister, Sarah. Jerry proudly served our country in the U.S. Coast Guard. He was owner/operator of A-1 Grading Service, was an avid golfer and enjoyed collecting antiques, such as trains, clocks, trinkets, etc. He was a talented organist, and he had a passion for the Baptist Sharing House and his bread ministry. Jerry and his wife were part of the Red Cross Disaster Team and were members of Parkwood Baptist Church in Concord. He loved his family, and he will certainly be missed by all who knew and loved him. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 29 years, Winnie Tucker Fox; daughter, Debbie Bessinger and husband, Melvin, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.; stepdaughter, Karen Tuggle and husband, Mike, of Griffin, Ga.; stepson, Dean Tucker and wife, Deb, of North Dakota; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sister, Susan Brown and husband, Johnny, of Wilmington; sisters-in-law, Nancy Fox and Carol Fox; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives and friends.
