KANNAPOLIS Daniel Joseph Childers, 72, a lifelong resident of Kannapolis, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, after a long illness. Danny was born May 1, 1947, in Kannapolis, to the late Willie Childers and Laura Carter Childers. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and sister, Camilla C. Karriker. In his early years, Dan was a manager for Harris Teeter stores. Later, he and his lifelong friend, Grady Hardeman, ran Auto World of Kannapolis for 23 years. Danny was an Army veteran who served in Vietnam. He enjoyed cruise-ins with his friends and loved driving his classic cars. He also had a passion for tasting and visiting barbeque restaurants, especially College BBQ in Salisbury. Those left to cherish his memory include his devoted wife, Diana Childers; daughter, Heather Childers; stepdaughter, Sabrina (Sean) Finkbeiner; stepson, Geoffrey O'Donnell; and seven grandchildren, Brynne (Michael) May, Conner O'Donnel, Grant Finkbeiner, Kylie O'Donnell, Emma O'Donnell, Jacob O'Donnell and Mia O'Donnell. A service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 2, at Whitley's Funeral Home. A reception to celebrate Danny's life will be held at the Whitley Annex Chapel on site following the service. Burial will be Tuesday, Nov. 5, at the Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Crosspointe Baptist Church, 1175 Crosspointe Dr., Concord NC 28025.
