David Ray "Dick" Blackwelder December 28, 1930 - February 11, 2020 David Ray "Dick" Blackwelder, 89, of Concord, passed away, Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2020, at Atrium Health Cabarrus. A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, at St. John's Lutheran Church, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Mark Ericson. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends at 11 a.m., prior to the service. Mr. Blackwelder was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Cabarrus County, a son of the late Sidney David Blackwelder and Annie Ruth Safrit Blackwelder. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church. After returning home from serving his country in the U.S. Army, he was a master carpenter working for Laxton Construction, LP Cox Construction and RJ Fisher Construction. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and bee keeping. He also was an avid NY Yankee fan. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, John, Paul, Harold, Jim, Earl "Creep", and Ned. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Monty Wilson Blackwelder; children, David Blackwelder (Lisa), Barbara Preddy (Jim) and Michael Blackwelder (Sherrie); grandsons, Justin and Benjamin Preddy; stepgrandson, Tyler Penninger; sisters-in-law, Pat Blackwelder and Daphne Blackwelder; and many nieces and nephews.
