A Union Grove man being sought for murder and theft was arrested in Yadkin County Monday afternoon, Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell said.
A news release from the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office stated warrants were obtained for 23-year-old Pierson Worth Colbert on charges of murder and larceny of a motor vehicle.
Campbell said in a phone interview Monday afternoon that Colbert had been arrested by Yadkin County law enforcement in a traffic stop along Interstate 77 North. His bond amount is not immediately known.
At 5:11 a.m. Monday, deputies responded to a residence in the 300 block of Indian Hill Road in Union Grove regarding an assault.
Deputies found Robert John Quinn, 44, of Indian Hill Road, in the driveway with wounds to the head. He was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies began interviewing witnesses and were told one was awakened by Colbert knocking on their door. Colbert reportedly told the witness the victim “Had gotten into it really big this time,” Campbell said.
The release said Colbert ran from the scene, and a 911 call was received a short time later stating someone was trying to enter a home on Tulbert Road. A few hours later, another call was received from a home in the 400 block of Zion Liberty Road reporting a stolen pickup truck.
Deputies found the original suspect vehicle, a Nissan Sentra, with paperwork containing Colbert's name. A 1996 GMC Sonoma truck was reported stolen.
The release stated Colbert has a criminal history involving drug possession, larceny, trespassing and several driving related charges.
