KANNAPOLIS -- The artist of the early 1980s hit “Jessie’s Girl” will perform a free concert this weekend in Kannapolis.
Rick Springfield will headline Saturday’s Concert in the Park at Village Park.
The concert is free and open to the public.
Sugarcreek will begin at 7 p.m., and Springfield will start his set around 8:30 p.m. Fireworks will follow the concert.
Officials say blankets, lawn chairs and coolers are permitted, and food will be available for purchase. There will be a beer and wine tent.
Pets, tobacco, grilling, glass bottles and outside alcohol are not permitted.
Shuttles will start at 5 p.m. and run from City Hall, the lot behind Nova Credit Union and Cabarrus Health Alliance.
The Embers, a beach music band, will perform a free conference from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday in Kannapolis at Thursday on Main at Veterans Park.
Other events in Kannapolis will include National Night Out at Veterans Park from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The city will celebrate with a free concert by Darrell Harwood, food, children’s games, free school supplies and more. The Kannapolis police and fire department staff and other community partners will interact with the public.
The Kannapolis Intimidators have home games against the Lexington Legends on Monday and Tuesday.
