A shelter has been set up at South Rowan High School due to a power outage affecting the entire Town of Landis and parts of Kannapolis and China Grove.
WBTV reported the power went out before 10 a.m. and impacted the entire town and some nearby communities in Kannapolis.
Officials have not said what caused the outage or a time, but WBTV reported the estimated time of restoration is 1 p.m.
The Town of Landis posted a statement on its Facebook page that reads, “We are working diligently with Duke Energy to restore power throughout the town. We are sorry for any inconvenience, but it is our goal to have power back online as soon as possible.”
Fire personnel are on scene at South Rowan and willing to assist anyone who needs to get out of the heat.
A post on the page also says “Mayor Mike Mahaley would like to encourage our citizens and customers to take advantage of this temporary cooling station. The entrance for the cooling station can be accessed off of Kimball Rd. at the bus parking lot. Red Cross should be on the scene within an hour to assist with drinks and snacks.”
