KANNAPOLIS – A teenager died in a car crash Wednesday morning in Kannapolis, according to police.

Officers said 16-year-old Antonio Meadows Jr., from Concord, was pronounced dead at the scene after the car he was riding in ran off the road and struck a tree just before 1 a.m. near the intersection of Dale Earnhardt Boulevard and Rogers Lake Road.

Police say alcohol and speeding are suspected to be factors in the crash.

Officers said that when they arrived at the scene, they found a 2015 Chevrolet Camaro in a small grass lot with heavy front-end damage from crashing into a large tree near Memorial Baptist Church in Kannapolis.

The driver, Demauree Crowder, was taken to Atrium Health Cabarrus for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash.

Police haven’t said if charges will be filed.

Kannapolis Police is still investigating, and no other information was released.

Anyone having additional information about the traffic crash is asked to contact Sergeant M.B. Rowland at 704-920-4049 or by email at browland@kannapolisnc.gov.
