KANNAPOLIS -- A 42-year-old Kannapolis man was struck and killed by a train on Friday, Nov. 22 in Kannapolis.
Police say the pedestrian was killed by a train around 3:30 a.m. at the First Street railroad crossing near the train station.
Police are still investigating into whether it was an accident or suicide.
Officers said the man was alone, so no foul play was involved.
It was the second person struck on those train tracks in Kannapolis in four months.
On Aug. 8, a 59-year-old man was struck and killed by a train about 100 feet from the Amtrak station at 201 S. Main Street.
The conductor of the Amtrak train told police that the man was standing on the track with his back to the oncoming train, and he did not move as the train approached.
Police said they have not seen an increase in people getting struck by trains on the track.
