KCS

Kannapolis City Schools is expanding its free summer lunch program. The district not only will add more permanent feeding sites over the summer but will also introduce mobile meal locations for the first time. The mobile meal locations are a partnership with the Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department, which will be operating mobile recreation sites at KCS schools during the summer.

Beginning Monday, June 24, KCS will offer four permanent feeding locations throughout the community. The sites will be open Monday through Thursday each week (except for July 4) and will provide free lunch meals to children. In addition, bag lunch meals will be served at three mobile locations, which will expand the reach of the free summer lunch program.

The four permanent summer lunch sites for 2019 will provide a free meal to anyone 18 years of age or younger (even children that do not attend Kannapolis City Schools). Adults 19 and older will be able to purchase meals.

Lunch sites will include:

- G.W. Carver Elementary School cafeteria: Located at 525 East C Street

- A.L. Brown High School cafeteria: Located at 415 East First Street

- Cannon Memorial YMCA: Located at 101 YMCA Drive

- New Hope Lutheran Church: 1615 Brantley Road

Lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Monday-Thursday, except for July 4.

In addition to the four lunch sites above, KCS will provide bag lunch meals at three mobile locations during the summer. The mobile lunch program is a partnership with the Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department, which is operating mobile recreation sites at three KCS schools during the summer.

Between the dates of June 25 and July 25, the mobile recreation program will serve Shady Brook Elementary School each Tuesday, Jackson Park Elementary each Wednesday, and Forest Park Elementary each Thursday (except July 4). Children who take part in the mobile recreation activities will receive free bag lunches from Kannapolis City Schools.
