A Kannapolis man was arrested after deputies said he threatened to kill his grandfather with a knife over the weekend.
Joshua Scott Ritchie, 28, was charged after the incident accorded at a house on Ebenezer Road in Kannapolis on Friday, April 26. The report from the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office said Ritchie pulled a knife on his 75-year-old grandfather when he was demanding that his grandparents give him money so he could pay off a hotel bill.
WBTV reported that at the time, Ritchie had just been released from a hospital after being treated for an overdose.
Ritchie was waving the knife and demanding the money, while also telling another relative that if he called 911 he would kill him along with deputies who responded to the call.
When deputies did arrive they found a syringe and money in his shoes.
Ritchie is now in jail under a $10,000 bond and charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of parole violation, assault with a deadly weapon, communicating threats and possession of drug paraphernalia.
