HARRISBURG — The town of Harrisburg’s new Veterans Park will open Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11. Veterans Park is in the Harris Square Shopping Center at 4281 Highway 49 S., Harrisburg.

The grand opening ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. Nov. 11, with a welcome from Harrisburg Mayor Steve Sciascia.

The ceremony will include the Jay M. Robinson JROTC Color Guard, an invocation by pastor Mike Thevenin and the national anthem performed by Miss Durham 2019 DeAndra Easter.

Mike Stubbs, Vietnam veteran and recipient of a Purple Heart award, will present the flags. Stubbs is also the MOPH Commander of Chapter 634 and a Harrisburg resident.

Vance and Mary Jo Patterson, with Foundation Forward, will present the Charters of Freedom: the Declaration of Independence, the United States Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

The 1.14-acre land parcel will act as passive green space, honoring the military and designed to complement the adjoining businesses. The park will also become the home of the town’s annual Christmas tree lighting event.
