Over the past two months the West Cabarrus YMCA Aquatics crew has played host to the Concord Fire Department in its efforts to expand our community outreach.

The firefighters have been training for a Swift Water Rescue Certification Class to become part of the swift water rescue unit for the city and county.

This certification is an effort to improve the ready response for any emergency and with the heavy amount of rainfall the county have experienced in the last two months, this training could not have come at a better time.

The process for the certification has just begun for the lucky few, about24 firefighters, but YMCA staff said they are proud to have a played a significant role in their success as they now move on to training for rescues in moving water.
