ROWAN COUNTY -- A 22-year-old Rowan County mother was charged with child abuse after her one-month-old infant suffered a fractured arm and two fractured ribs.
Brittany Hardin, from China Grove, charged with two counts of Felony Child Abuse Inflicting Serious Injury.
She was taken to jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
Rowan County deputies and Rowan County Department of Social Services investigated after an infant was being treated with a spiral fracture on its arm Wednesday at Levine's Children Hospital in Charlotte.
Deputies said that during the investigation, detectives found that the injuries discovered on the child did not match what Hardin was telling the hospital staff.
In addition to the fractured arm, two fractured ribs were also found on the child, according to deputies.
Detectives questioned Hardin, and at first she denied abusing the child, claiming that the injuries came from her rolling on top of the child’s arm while sleeping together on the couch.
Deputies said Hardin confessed to squeezing the child on one instance, and then jerking the child by the arm out of a crib on another because the infant was crying.
Detectives, the Department of Social Services and physicians are working to ensure the child remains safe and to determine whether or not additional charges need to be filed.
