Charges have been dismissed against a man who was previously accused of shooting and killing a pregnant woman in Salisbury in 2018, according to Rowan County deputies.
The death of Mariah Nicole Turner is still under investigation, deputies say.
Deputies said Turner was fatally shot around 2 a.m. March 24, 2018, at a home on North Long Street in Salisbury.
Through the investigation of the incident, Witt Darnell Alexander was positively identified as being one of two suspects at the scene, and the person who shot Turner, deputies say.
Alexander was arrested and charged with murder.
Deputies said additional information potentially supported an alibi provided by Alexander, and charges were dropped.
With this being an ongoing investigation, and Alexander still being a potential suspect, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office hasn’t released any further comment.
