For more than fifty years, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners. This year, we will celebrate May 5 – 11.

More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business, and they create about two out of every three new jobs in the United States each year.

The Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce’s mission is to support, promote and advocate for businesses in Cabarrus County, and it’s a mission we are proud of - over 90 percent of our members are small business owners who sizably contribute to our community’s great quality of life!

Look around. As we experience smart growth and expansion, small businesses are flourishing. Our partner agency, the Cabarrus County Economic Development Corporation, working with our county and municipalities, recruits larger businesses that offer high paying jobs and meaningful benefits. As these companies locate here, the trickle-down effect is felt throughout our community, benefiting our small businesses. Banks add new customers. Realtors sell more houses. Dentists add new patients. Restaurants get new patrons.

I saw a social media post recently that said, “Every time you support a small business, you are helping children get dance lessons and team jerseys, a mother or father put food on the table, a family pay a mortgage or a student pay for college.” We are grateful for our small businesses and all they add to Cabarrus County. Please thank a small business owner this week and make sure to shop small and local whenever possible!

Sincerely,

Barbi Jones

Executive Director

Cabarrus Regional Chamber of Commerce
