CONCORD – Cabarrus County Schools Superintendent Chris Lowder recently announced the following personnel appointments, which were approved by the Cabarrus County Board of Education on Monday, Dec. 3.
Stefanie Almond, director of child nutrition for Stanly County Schools, will join Cabarrus County Schools as director of school nutrition, replacing Daughn Baker, who is retiring.
Almond began her career as a family and consumer sciences teacher at Albemarle High School in 2006 before stepping into her current role.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Pfeiffer University and an NC TEACH Lateral Entry Education Certificate from East Carolina University.
She will report to Dr. Kelly Propst, assistant superintendent of auxiliary services.
Chris Balga, assistant principal at Harris Road Middle School (HRMS), will transfer to Hickory Ridge High School (HRHS), replacing Megan Becker, who is relocating out of state.
Balga worked at HRHS as a social studies teacher from 2008 to 2013. He also worked as a principal intern at Central Cabarrus High School during the 2014-2015 school year before joining the HRMS administrative team in December 2015. Balga also has worked as a teacher and an administrator in Winston-Salem and Salisbury.
He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a second master’s degree from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
These changes are effective Jan. 2, 2019.
