Harrisburg

Applications for the Town of Harrisburg’s Citizens Academy are due Monday, Sept. 2.

The Town of Harrisburg's annual Citizens Academy program provides Harrisburg residents and business owners with an opportunity to learn about the structure and function of local government through a free, 7-week course each fall.

The Citizens Academy will be held on Tuesday evenings in September and October and will conclude with graduation recognition during the November Town Council meeting. Sessions, held 6-8 p.m., will be in various locations throughout Harrisburg, including the Old Post Office, Town Hall and the Public Works facility. Department managers will present an overview of their departments and participants will be able to express their concerns, ask questions and gain a better understanding of what each department does. Dinner will be provided at each session.

There is a limited number of spots available for the Fall 2019 Citizens Academy. Participants will be selected based on an application process. To apply, you must be a Harrisburg resident or business owner and at least 18 years old. Those who are accepted into the program must attend one council meeting and six Citizens Academy sessions.

You may mail or hand-deliver your application to Harrisburg Town Hall, 4100 Main St., or email your application to llover@harrisburgnc.org.
