Learning the ins and outs of a DSLR camera can mean the difference between OK shots and stunning shots while on vacation this summer. From Cabarrus Arts Council

Our Focusing on the FUNdamentals of Photography class was so popular in February that we’re offering it once again this month. Join other beginners on Saturday, June 15 from 10 am – 5 pm  to learn the ins and outs of DSLR cameras.

Bring your camera and be prepared to take a few notes. After this workshop, you’ll be a much more confident photographer! This class is recommended for age 12 and up. Registration is required.

We’re pleased to have professional photographer Laurie Schorr back to teach this beginners’ photography class in the community once again. Laurie earned a BA in Visual Arts and Art History from Roger Williams University and an MA in Art and Art Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. From Cabarrus Arts Council

Rockin’ The Burg: Saturday, June 8, 6:30-9:00pm; 6:30 to 7:00pm Opener - Mike Alicke, 7:00 to 9:00pm Main act -  Edwin McCain; Each Rockin' the Burg Concert at Harrisburg Park features food trucks, children's activities, including an inflatable and other outdoor yard games, and live music! Bring your lawn chairs and blankets. Leashed pets are welcome. The Edwin McCain concert is free to attend; 191 Sims Parkway, Harrisburg. Mark Making from the “Ground” Up: Sunday, June 9, 2pm; Brandon Henrie, Store Manager at Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff will give an in-depth discussion and demonstration of creating art with both new and old products. He will explain the different grounds and coatings applied to canvas, panels, and paper, discuss a variety of mediums, and describe drawing tools for mark making. Activities in The Galleries; Monday through Friday, 9 am – 5 pm during exhibitions; Art Box – Boxes full of art materials and instructions provide guided art projects for children of all ages when they visit The Galleries. The projects relate to the current exhibition, and the artwork can be made right here in The Galleries, on the front steps, or outside on the lawn. I Spy Scavenger Hunt – Get a scavenger list at the front desk, then search the art in The Galleries for everything on it. It’s a fun game for all ages, and a great way to pick up the details of artwork. Think about it – Our guided questionnaire is full of colorful pictures of artwork accompanied by conversation starters such as, "What questions would you ask this artist if he or she were here right now?" This activity is great for anyone who wants to examine artworks in a new way.
