MIDLAND — A torpedo monument is being dedicated Saturday at Midland American Legion Post 433.

The monument will honor the late James Bost “J.B.” Roberts Jr. The ceremony will be at 10 a.m. at the post home at 12975 Cabarrus Station Road, Midland. The honorable retired Judge Clarence Horton Jr. will be the speaker.

Roberts served in the Navy during World War II and was highly decorated. He survived the sinking of the USS Yorktown and the Battle of Midway. He later became a sheriff’s deputy and then was elected and served as Cabarrus County sheriff for many years. He retired and was a farmer until his death in 2016.

Light refreshments will follow the ceremonies.
