Billy Patterson Jr. CONCORD On Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013, Billy Ray Patterson Jr., answered God's gentle call and entered into the bosom of the Lord. Billy Ray was born Aug. 11, 1954, in Concord. He was the first child born to Vivian Scott Patterson Steele and Billy Ray Patterson Sr. He was educated in the Cabarrus County School System. Billy Ray was a 1972 graduate of Concord High School. After high school he furthered his education by attending Central Piedmont College as a radio broadcasting major. Later in 2000 he became certified in Internet Technology from Rowan Cabarrus Community College. He ended his career working in the IT department of the Billy Graham Ministries in Charlotte. As a child, Billy Ray was a member of Zion Hill A.M.E Zion Church where he served as a member of the usher board, junior steward board and delivered the children's sermon every Sunday, he also served as Chairman on the Board of The Old Camp ground Cemetery Restoration Committee. Billy Ray and his wife later joined Rock Hill A.M.E Zion church where he faithfully served as the audio/visual technician and the Board of Trustees. For the last years of his life he and his family were members of New Vision Christian Worship Center where he served on the Board of Trustees. Billy Ray was a loving, compassionate and kind man especially to his wife, children and family. He was a big Pittsburg Steelers fan and would let everybody know. If you didn't know his favorite teams, you really didn't know Billy Ray. He was always heard before you could see him because he had a loud, lively voice that he used to encourage many. He was the life of the party. He leaves to cherish his memory of his wife Vanessa Stowe Patterson, Concord, NC; a mother, Vivian Scott Patterson Steele, Concord, NC; a father, Billy Ray Patterson Sr.; Kannapolis, NC; two sons Justin Phillips; and Jayme Patterson both of Concord, NC; a daughter, Sheree Phillips, Concord, NC; two sisters, Gracie P. Balknight, Kannapolis, NC; Avis Steele Edmond (John), Concord, NC; and a loving friend, Darrell Means (Regina), Concord, NC. He also leaves to cherish his memory three uncles; Martin Scott, Chicago, Illinois; Clinton Patterson (Geraldine), Kannapolis, NC and Otis Patterson, New York, NY; four aunts; Laura McCollough, Kannapolis, NC; Joyce Caldwell, Concord, NC; Alice-Robinson (Harold), Concord, NC; and Carolyn Gorham, Fayetteville, NC and a host of other relatives and friends. Services are as follows: Tuesday, Nov. 6, at the Kitty Sanson Chapel, Barber Scotia College, there will be a visitation at 1 p.m. The family will also be receiving friends at his home, 4800 Covington Drive Concord 28027. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Rutherford Memorial Cemetery. Lamb Funeral Home Inc. is serving the Patterson family.
